In Budaörs Prime Minister Viktor Orbán laid a wreath at memorial of deportation of Germans in Hungary

In the company of Member of Parliament for the German community in Hungary Imre Ritter, at the Budaörs railway station, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán laid a wreath at the memorial of the deportation of Germans in Hungary, Bertalan Havasi, the head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Mr Orbán also informed his followers of the Tuesday morning wreath-laying ceremony on his social media account, posting this message: “The 75th anniversary of the deportation of Germans in Hungary. Reverence for the victims. Worthy remembrance of the suffering.”

Pursuant to a resolution of the Hungarian Parliament, since 2013, 19 January has been the Memorial Day of the deportation and expulsion of Germans in Hungary which is an official state commemoration.

Deportations began on 19 January 1946; the first train left from Budaörs.
