Hungary will not risk its energy supply

On Friday evening, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson by telephone, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He said the two leaders had reviewed the situation in Ukraine which they both found worrying.

Mr Orbán confirmed that Hungary – the same as to date – continued to remain ready to take part in the European Union’s efforts against the war. At the same time, he reiterated that Hungary would not risk its energy supply; in this regard, there is room neither for gambling, nor for experimenting. Therefore, before any sanction related to energy is tabled, solutions must be found to address the concerns of EU Member States, Mr Havasi reported, adding that Mr Orbán and Mr Johnson agreed to continue to remain in close contact.
