Hungary supports Moldova’s EU candidate status

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had telephone talks with his Moldovan counterpart Natalia Gavrilita about the war in Ukraine and Moldova’s European integration, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday.

During the talks, the parties reviewed the situation in Ukraine, with special regard to the refugee crisis; as both countries neighbour Ukraine, Moldova as well as Hungary are providing assistance for hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the war.

Mr Orbán welcomed the Moldovan government’s plan to apply for EU candidate status. Hungary will support Moldova’s EU integration throughout the process leading to membership, the press chief reported.

He added that during their talks, Natalia Gavrilita and Viktor Orbán spoke about historical relations between the two countries in words of praise, and supported the further strengthening of bilateral economic and educational cooperation.
