Hungary has successfully represented its position on the issue of Jerusalem

In Brussels on Friday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Hungarian news agency MTI that, in the European Council, heads of government had long and lively, serious, in-depth talks on the subject of Jerusalem. During these talks, he said, Hungary had successfully represented its standpoint.

The essence of the Hungarian standpoint is that the European Union does not need to react to the US government’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Accordingly, Mr. Orbán said, at the summit a compromise has been reached, whereby the EU must continue to represent the position it has hitherto adopted, and its current standpoint on the solution to the Middle East crisis must be strengthened.

The Prime Minister stressed, however, that recently publicised speculation on this matter has been inaccurate.
