The lives and security of the Hungarian people, including Hungarians living in Transcarpathia are the number one priority, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message posted on his Facebook account on Wednesday in connection with the war in Ukraine.

After the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said “we cannot, and will not adopt any decision that could turn either settlements and people in Hungary, or Hungarians and Ukrainians living in Transcarpathia into targets”.

After the government assessed the situation on the basis of the seventh day of the war, the cabinet confirmed that Hungary will send neither military personnel nor weapons to the territory of Ukraine. “We also confirmed that arms will not be allowed to cross the territory of Hungary towards Ukraine,” Mr Orbán stressed.

In continuation, he said the top priority is for Hungary to be left out of this war.

At the same time, the Prime Minister pointed out that Ukraine is our friend, they are in trouble, and those in trouble must be helped.

“We have launched one of the largest humanitarian campaigns in the history of Hungary. As a first step, we are sending food, hygiene products and child care products to the value of 600 million forints,” he said.
