What’s at stake in Vote 2025 is whether we can prevent Ukraine’s EU accession

What is at stake in the Vote 2025 opinion vote is whether we can prevent Ukraine’s EU accession and whether we can protect the Hungarian people from the resulting threats, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in a video posted on his Facebook account.

The Prime Minister posted his statement on the occasion of the fact that he himself received the ballot paper for the vote, meaning that “Vote 2025 is moving ahead at full speed.”

“I ask everyone to avail themselves of the opportunity of stating their opinion because this time we are consulting the people on an issue which will determine Hungary’s fate for decades ahead,” he said.

The politician stated that Ukraine’s EU accession conveyed enormous risks. It would jeopardise the functioning of Hungarian businesses, would destroy our agriculture, and would threaten Hungarian jobs, even pensions.

“Meanwhile, our opponents – the Brussels bureaucrats and their local agents – are doing everything they can to push Ukraine’s EU accession through. What’s at stake is whether we can prevent this and whether we can protect Hungarian families from the resulting threats,” he pointed out.

“Only the Hungarian people can decide on the fate of Hungary; your opinion matters, too,” Mr Orbán said, concluding his statement.

The caption under the video statement reads as follows: “With the Brussels-Tisza pact they would push Ukraine into the European Union. We must not allow them to decide over the heads of the Hungarian people. State your opinion. Vote 2025 has started.”
