Speech by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the “Fight Club” event “The Beginning”

Hello there, Fighters! Welcome! I welcome the freedom fighters of the digital world!

Today I’ve gathered here those who responded to my appeal to Hungarians who love their homeland – let’s call them Hungarian patriots. Patriots who not only love their country, but are also prepared to do something for it. In fact I’ve been looking for those who not only love it and do something for it, but who are also willing to fight for it. Such Hungarians are here together today. Thank you for coming! Thank you for joining our Fight Club.

My Friends,

Let’s cut to the chase: Hungary is under attack. And if it’s under attack, someone has to defend it. And that someone is us. In fact, Hungary’s under an attack against which it can only be defended by us. To tell you the truth, in recent years we are the ones who have always defended it. In the end, Hungary has always been able to count on us. It’s a familiar situation. We feel like János Hunyadi’s troops, who – as I’m sure you saw – asked, “Well, what about the King? The Emperor? The Pope? The Germans? Italy? Anyone?” The answer: “We’re alone. Just as usual. At least we can be ourselves here without having to please outsiders.”

Before I talk about how we’ll defend Hungary, let’s briefly recall some of this week’s happy and joyful moments. Life’s not just always about work, so let’s have some fun. First, let’s devote a few words to DK [Democratic Coalition]. Ferenc Gyurcsány is gone. Allegedly. Because he hasn’t honoured Hungary by revealing the whole truth. But we’re a chivalrous nation, we believe women and we believe in women, so we accept the announcement from Mrs. Klára [Dobrev]. My Friends, the leader of the Left is no more, he’s slung his hook, he’s disappeared down the drain. This is the man who led the Hungarians by the nose, who lured the unsuspecting into foreign currency loans, who took away the thirteenth month’s salaries and pensions, who saddled us with the IMF, and who saw to it that the eyes of peacefully demonstrating brothers of ours were shot out. So justice exists, after all! This is about more than one person. In 2006 we warned that this is how it would end; but in Hungary, the mail is delivered very slowly. As we say here, “God’s mills grind slowly, but they grind finely.” Here that’s literally the case. My friends, this is the victory of national politics over the post-communist era: our shared victory, your great victory over a Left composed of rebranded communists. Let us honour it!

And here’s the other piece of news to make you chuckle on this fun Sunday: Momentum is finished. This is their brave and heroic decision: they won’t stand in the election. The spitting images of Sir Robin [the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot, from Monty Python]! They have indeed become a moment, a brief footnote in Hungarian political history: dream-killers who crushed the Hungarians’ century-old dream of hosting the Olympics. God delivers justice as He sees fit. Let us thank Him for doing the job for us.

And add to this the fact that Jobbik is also teetering on the edge of its grave. Those who are willing to do anything for power and money – even to team up with Gyurcsány – will end up like Jobbik. This is right and it is just: traitors will always be traitors, and will get what’s coming to them. Hungary is no country for Judases.

My Friends,

And now back to work! The fact that Hungary is under attack is nothing new. The bureaucrats in Brussels, led by the Soros faction, have attacked Hungary before. They wanted to turn Hungary into a migrant country, to re-educate our children with their gender activists, to abolish the thirteenth month’s pension, to make us pay horrendous prices for utilities, and to take Hungarians’ money out of Hungary. Don’t forget, that was why their masters in Brussels pushed the six parties together into a single list for the 2022 election. We fought off that attack. We fought it off in style. With gratitude and thanks to you! But now the situation is more difficult, because the Ukrainians have got involved. Today, the biggest threat is Ukraine’s EU membership. I understand them: their country is ruined. Even before the war, the whole of Ukraine was in chaos. But what about now, during and after the war! They can’t stand on their own feet, they need money, other people’s money. That’s why they want to get into the European Union immediately, and at any cost. They don’t care about bringing the war in with them. They don’t care about ruining our farmers. They don’t care about the fact that we’d become a thoroughfare for the Ukrainian mafia. But we Hungarians do care! We don’t want to be dragged into their war. We don’t want them to ruin our farmers. We don’t want them to turn the safest country in Europe into a mafia den. And we don’t want the Hungarian people’s money to go to them via Brussels. No. No. No!

My Friends,

This is what the series of Ukrainian intelligence operations against Hungary is all about. This is what the smear campaign against Hungary – paid for from abroad – is all about; and this is why Brussels wants to impose the pro-Ukrainian Tisza–Dobrev coalition on us. Ukrainian membership may be good for the West, but it’s bad for us: they’ll get the coffee, we’ll be left with the grounds. We live right next door, our borders will be invaded, our jobs will be taken, and our money will be taken. We must resist. And, I promise you, we shall resist.

My Friends,

Let’s devote a few sentences to talking about what the chances are. It’s certain that in Brussels and Kiev/Kyiv they’re betting against us. I say that the Hungarians will have a few words to say about that. Now Hungary has finally managed to pull itself together, it’s managed to take its fate into its own hands, it’s managed to free itself from foreign interests and influence, families again have something to lose, we’ve managed to stay out of the war – and, what’s more, we’ve managed to gain the support of the United States. When we’ve done all this, it would be the greatest misfortune in the world if Brussels and Ukraine were to take control of Hungary now, right now – if they were to turn us into a colony again, and exploit Hungarian families again. The truth, the truth of the Hungarians, is on our side – there’s no doubt about that. This is important, indeed essential, because one can only fight well for a cause that’s just. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough. You have to know that in politics justice alone is not enough. If it were enough, we wouldn’t have lost two thirds of our country. Behind the justice you have to put strength: serious and great strength – at least as great as the strength with which we’re attacked. And I believe that you’re equal to the task. So far you have succeeded.

Remember, we won the migration battle. We defended ourselves, and today Hungary is a migrant-free country. The others proved to be weak, and they lost – they became immigrant countries. For them it’s too late: there’s no recovery, there’s no remedy, there’s no way back. They’d give their right arms to reverse what’s happened. They’d like to be Hungary, but we don’t want to be like them. And we shan’t be! And, Friends, remember, we’ve also won the battle for our children’s future: we’ve defended the right of parents to decide how their children are brought up, and we’ve curbed views and fashions that are against nature. And this will remain the case in Hungary for as long as we have a pro-family, national government.

But there’s a catch. And it’s precisely because of this that we’re here. The world has changed – and with it politics. New things have exploded onto the scene, new spaces have opened up, and politics has been taken over by the online, digital world. Of course, we’re still the largest and most organised political community in Europe. We work harder than anyone else. We have the largest number of members, the largest number of groups, the largest number of MPs, we’re present in the largest number of villages and the largest number of towns. But I remember that after his third Olympic gold medal, Áron Szilágyi said to me, “What’s enough today won’t be enough tomorrow.” And he’s right! We too need to innovate, we need to move in and up into virtual space. Of course politics is still about real people. And personal contact remains the most precious thing in the lives of all of us, of all people. But now we need to be the strongest in the digital space. This is why we’ve created the club of digital freedom fighters.

What you’ve achieved so far is fantastic. You’ve created the inner core of the digital defence force. You’re the first ten thousand who have taken the first step. You deserve the credit. Bravo, bravo, bravo! This is like a building project – except we’re not building a castle out of bricks, but out of people. We’re doing this according to plan. Quietly and unobtrusively, we’ve laid the foundations. Solid as a rock. That’s you! Today, my friends, we’re emerging above ground level. Let the walls go up. Now we’ll take the next step. I ask each of you to bring along one more person within one week. Bring along one more fighter! Within one week, I want everyone to find and bring in one new member. But listen up: you can only bring in fighters! There’s no need for onlookers – they’ll just be underfoot when there’s work to be done. Better a few lions than a lot of rabbits. Of course the real thing is a lot of lions. Bring them in! I ask you to obey the rules of the Club. You must take responsibility for those you bring in. We don’t want any interlopers. So keep to the deadline, but be careful! We’ll have 20,000 by the end of next week. We’ll double again in the autumn, and by January we’ll reach 100,000. We’ll fight the 2026 elections with 100,000 digital freedom fighters who love their country.

This is all very fine, but please don’t worry about that today! Don’t focus on the election, just on the tasks of the day. The election is a long way off. An old Szekler asks his son, “What time is it?” His son replies, “In ten minutes’ time it’ll be two o’clock.” Then he gets a clip around the ear. “Son, I didn’t ask what time it will be in ten minutes!” And so I’m not asking if you’re ready for the election in three hundred and forty days; I’m asking if you’ve done your work for today.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

Let’s talk about the style of the fight. Posture and fighting style is important. You see, our opponents fight underhandedly, without showing their faces. We fight showing our faces, like today: we gather together, we declare who we are, and we stand by one another. We will reach all Hungarians – even those who have already moved into the new digital, virtual space. Our opponents are fighting for money and out of a desire for power. We are fighting from our hearts and with passion, and we know that in the end the heart beats money. It will take a lot of heart – and then all the money in Brussels and all the spy networks of the Ukrainians won’t be enough to defeat us.

Dear Friends, Fighters,

The first battle has arrived: it’s called Voks2025. The stakes are enormous. The opponent is ready. They’ve found their new Lieutenant Hegedűs – just as the Turks did at the siege of Eger. It’s time for us to take action. Back then on the walls, today on Facebook. From [Castle Commander] Dobó we know this: we can only win if the women and girls join in the battle. Thank you, Alexandra! Thank you, Janka!

My Friends,

When we think of our country, we feel pride. When they think of Hungary, they feel anger. The Tisza–Dobrev coalition has more respect for the Ukrainian state than for Hungary. It values Brussels more than Budapest. For them, Ukraine’s EU membership is more important than the security and well-being of Hungarians. They are friends of Zelenskyy, not of the Hungarians. We are no longer children, we know that this is about much more than politics: it’s a question of character. What kind of people work against their own country? What kind of person is proud of managing to prevent the renovation of fifty Hungarian hospitals? What kind of person has a master and not a homeland? And who seeks the favours of Kiev/Kyiv and Brussels, and not the love of Hungarians? And what kind of a thing is it, my friends, that pseudo-civil society organisations are constantly working against Hungarians, using money from abroad? What kind of thing is it to run a war propaganda network against your own country? In America this has been stopped. It’s time to follow the Americans! Political debate: yes. Freedom of speech: yes. Foreign money: no. Those who are in politics should not receive money from abroad! It’s not a big request, it’s rather modest and simple. But we won’t yield on it, because the country is not for sale, not for any money. That won’t happen – even if Tisza, DK, Brussels and Kiev/Kyiv perform their song and dance routine in unison.

My Friends,

And finally, as a parting message, I ask you to never forget that we continue to believe in the power of love and unity, that we serve a just cause, and that our fight is a good fight. I stand ready to lead you in this digital fight. You know how I do it: unity in the important things; freedom in the less important things; fraternal love in all things. We are big, we are many, we are strong – and we shall win.

God above us all, Hungary before all else! Go Hungary, go Hungarians!
