New world order is unfolding; we have no interest in the development of blocs

At the usual annual meeting of ambassadors held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke about the changes taking place in the world and the strategic directions of Hungarian foreign policy, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

The hegemony of the West has come to an end, today no one disputes this anymore, data clearly supports this development, Mr Orbán said, adding that a new world order is unfolding before our eyes; the situation must be continuously analysed and assessed. Evidently, attempts are being made to tear the world economy into geopolitical blocs, and enormous pressure is being exerted on states such as Hungary which stand for a pro-sovereignty position, the Prime Minister said in continuation.

Being forced into a bloc, there is very limited scope for manoeuvre, and so while Hungary has a vested interest in European Union and NATO membership, it has no interest in the development of blocs. Therefore, we will strengthen our alliance with other pro-sovereignty countries, he indicated.

The mission of Hungarian ambassadors is to demonstrate with undisputable economic facts what it is that makes Hungary successful, rather than apologising for our political unorthodoxy, Mr Orbán laid down.
