According to majority of European leaders, war in Ukraine must continue

The majority of European leaders argue in favour of continuing the war, Ukraine must continue the war in such a way that Europe will take on not only the burdens it has taken on so far, but will also assume the financial and military burdens picked up by the Americans to date, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Brussels on Thursday.

In a video posted on his social media account during a break of the one-day extraordinary summit concerned with Ukraine, Mr Orbán said leaders of the Member States heard Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and then tried to understand by way of questions “what the actual situation is on the frontline as well as what the situation is in the Ukrainian President’s head and what he thinks about the future.”

“What I can say is that the situation on the frontline is unchanged, fighting is ongoing,” the Prime Minister said.

He also said the Americans had made it clear that they were reducing the extent of support provided significantly, and had in fact stopped all forms of aid in certain areas. In his words, the Europeans are at present struggling with the question of whether Ukraine should continue the war now exclusively with European support. The majority of European leaders argue that this war must continue. Ukraine will have to continue the war in such a way that Europe will take on not only the burdens it has taken on so far, but will also assume the financial and military burdens picked up by the Americans to date, he pointed out.

This is the plan now taking shape, Mr Orbán said, adding that the European Council will return to the topic of the future of Ukraine at seven in the evening, while until then – according to his information – the leaders of Member States will start talks about Europe’s future security architecture.
