The patriotic government will not allow us to be dragged into the war

“The patriotic government will not allow us to be dragged into the war, we will not give our money to Ukraine, and we will protect the interests of families. This is what the elections are about,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in the Sunday edition of the online programme ‘Hour of Truth’ that was recorded on Friday.

Mr Orbán stated: the country would stand to lose a great deal if a government other than a patriotic one received a mandate for the next four years because “if we are dragged into the war, they will take our money to Ukraine, the cost of living for families will increase several-fold, and hundreds of thousands of families will find themselves in an almost hopeless economic situation.” “This is what we must avert, this is what we must ward off,” he stated regarding the stakes in the elections.

In connection with the Tisza Party, Mr Orbán pointed out that “ever since they’ve been around, we have been up against a movement that seeks to build the future on anger, hatred, humiliation, violence, verbal and physical violence.” By Sunday evening, this will be over, he added.

This requires three million votes. “And since the beginning of the campaign, we have perceivably – meaning visibly and audibly – increased in numbers, I think by now we are the majority, and additionally, from a silent majority – which I think we have always been – we have turned into – regardless of the media noise – into a loud majority,” the Prime Minister-President of Fidesz stressed, adding that he has experience about what election rallies look like, what the atmosphere is like, and “we’re on top in every respect.”

Mr Orbán said a great many young people attend their rallies, they have gained much in strength in the youth camp in recent weeks “because security is security, the people feel it in their guts that the world has turned upside down, it is in turmoil.” Regardless of “the violent and aggressive Hungarian Tisza,” the whole world is tense because there are risks, ongoing threats, and young people, too, are looking for security, he added.

In the interview, the Prime Minister said now the whole of Europe and the world are watching us; at the same time, according to experiences, “people tend to focus on their pockets in elections.” “Yes, you must go to the polls now because the whole world is watching what the Hungarians are doing, and the future of Europe, the future of the Patriots, too, will partly be decided today,” the Prime Minister said.

Recalling earlier elections, Mr Orbán said in 2014, the European Union had a “friendlier” leadership than the present one, though there were disputes also back then due to the bank levy and the tax on multinational companies.

“Brussels wanted this, we wanted the very opposite, then we waited to see who was going to win, and we did; it was the same in 2018 and 2022,” the Prime Minister added.

He pointed out: there, they are taking this very badly, “they think that from a moral point of view, they’re standing on the world’s highest shelf or summit,” no one can be right against them, they stand so much for what is best for humanity that it is impossible for anyone to win against them and remain standing.

They have to show the Member States that even if you win against Brussels, you will not be able to remain on your feet afterwards, Mr Orbán stressed, observing that the Hungarians have served as an example for 16 years. “Not only are we on our feet, alive and kicking,” but we are in a better state than they are, he laid down.

The Prime Minister said it is a crime if people abandon state services, typically the armed forces, and so he instructed experts to assess and uncover the legal aspects of these practices, and if necessary, the relevant proceedings will have to be instituted after the elections.

He added that he saw a degree of “collusion and coordination” in connection with the people who abandoned the army, the police, the intelligence services and the economic competition office.

“I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find international intelligence links behind these incidents,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, that these people did what they did before the elections is “calculated,” and at that “badly calculated,” but “they won’t be able to escape their punishment because in the evening of the elections they will find out that their calculation led them to bet on the wrong horse.”

On the programme, Mr Orbán also said the Hungarian electoral system is among the safest in Europe, every item of data can be retrieved both electronically and in hard copy, meaning that it is impossible to manipulate the results of the elections from outside.

He said based on the information of the National Election Office, there will be “quite a few” votes that they will not be able to count on Sunday evening, and we may therefore expect a 95 to 96 per cent level of processing at that point in time.

Mr Orbán stressed: we must cast our votes because “we cannot allow everything that we have worked so hard for in the past sixteen years to go to the dogs.”

“Those who want security, who want to secure what they have already achieved in life, who don’t want to go backward or to slide down, to have their family budgets pocketed, or to see the businesses they work for go under, who want to preserve full employment, who want to maintain the family support system, and who don’t want to worry about the prospect of finding their children or grandchildren sooner or later on Ukrainian soil under some European flag, they’re the ones who should primarily cast their votes and say no to everything that threatens us from Brussels, say no to the Tisza Party colluding with Brussels which wants to form a pro-Ukraine government, and say yes to the safe choice, meaning to Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People’s Party,” the Prime Minister laid down.

He added: today, every reasonable argument and important consideration points in the direction of security, and through that, in the direction of Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People’s Party, “therefore, we must take our neighbours, too.”
