We will give Ukraine neither our children, nor our weapons, nor our money

We will give Ukraine neither our children, nor our weapons, nor our money, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán laid down at an election rally of the government parties in Debrecen on Thursday.

In his speech delivered at Dósa nádor tér, the Prime Minister highlighted: the Hungarians’ money is at stake; in other words, whether we will allow our money to be taken to Ukraine. He said they want to take the Hungarians’ money away in three forms. The first one is that they take it to Ukraine, he said, mentioning the EUR 90 billion war loan which the Ukrainians would only be required to repay if they defeated the Russians and they paid them reparations. He observed: as they will not be able to repay this loan, this amount will “whoosh” out of the national budgets, and additionally, two further economic packages – one worth USD 800 billion and another worth USD 700 billion – are also on the table.

The next government’s most important task will be to say no to this, and to keep Hungary out of this mad idea, and “we will,” he stated, adding that we will give Ukraine neither our children, nor our weapons, nor our money.

He also spoke about the fact that there are plans to detach Hungary from eastern, Russian energy which would in consequence lead to the cessation of protected fuel prices and the reduction of household energy bills, and the people would lose an entire monthly average salary due to high household energy costs. Therefore, we need a government which protects Hungary’s national interests in the area of energy, he laid down.

Regarding the oil blockade, he said the Ukrainians are hoping that if the patriotic government leaves and Tisza forms a new government, they will never again have to reopen the Druzhba oil pipeline.

As the third element, he mentioned the HUF 15,000 billion which they have taken away between 2010 and 2026 from banks, large energy companies and international trading chains in the form of taxes and other contributions and have given to families, young people and pensioners. A Tisza Government would take all this back, he pointed out.

This year alone, they have collected HUF 2,000 billion from these companies in the form of taxes, he indicated, adding that they would start pocketing Hungarian families already this year. This must be prevented, they will not allow this to happen, he stated.

He also spoke about the fact that foreign intelligence services come and go in Hungary like in a transit house, and this will impose a formidable task on the next government. These are all criminal acts which we must take action and protect Hungary’s freedom and independence against.

It is unacceptable that Tisza invited foreign intelligence services in in order to win the elections with their assistance, he laid down

Mr Orbán said by the end of the campaign, we are the silent majority. He added: also at the beginning of the “enormous and successful campaign” that was launched after the 15 March Peace March, his supporters were in the majority, but constituted a silent majority which “the opponent pounced upon in packs,” attacking those holding opinions different from theirs due to their civic, patriotic and Christian principles.

The Prime Minister said in the past four years, the war has blocked the economy, but despite this, the Hungarians have not given up their goals, and have preserved full employment. If the government parties win, he said in continuation, by the end of the next term, as many as five million people will have jobs and the average income will reach a million forints.

He thanked his Roma compatriots with whom the government concluded a contract, and many thousands of Roma families availed themselves of the opportunities so emerging: they work and their children go to school.

He also said whatever difficulties may come during the period ahead, the government will likewise persevere with its pro-family policy. He mentioned several government measures serving to help young people, and then suggested to them that they should not forget to thank the elderly for these because it was their hard work that constituted their foundations.

He compared the government parties and their opponents. “We don’t go to their rallies to cause trouble, they do,” he stressed, adding that neither a country, nor the future can be built on anger, hatred and negative emotions, this is exactly what Tisza wants and this will be their downfall. What sets the government parties apart from them is that they unwaveringly believe in the strength of love and unity.

“We don’t spoil other people’s fun, we don’t believe in spoiling celebration because celebration is always stronger than spoiling fun,” he said.

He further laid down: the past four years have been unfair, and as far as he can see, the next four years “don’t appear any fairer either.” The war is not over, in fact, new wars are breaking out, and major storm clouds are coming towards the European economy and Hungary, he stated. He added: it was a good decision in 2022 that the government parties forged an alliance against the war. It is this alliance we must renew now, and as the challenges now facing us are greater, we will need an even greater alliance, “we will need minimum three million votes so that Hungary may stay safe.”

He asked members of his audience to speak to their family members, neighbours and work colleagues, and to convince them that in these difficult times, Fidesz is the only safe choice. He pointed out: they previously said everyone should bring one more person; now he says everyone should bring with them everyone else.

Mr Orbán said he understands young people, that they want to get into power, everyone has the field-marshal’s baton in their pockets, but everything has its ordained time, and this is not their time right now. Here and now, we need experience, security, knowledge, routine, a cool head, cold blood and a firm hand, he stressed.

He further spoke about the fact that the stakes are also high in the elections for Hungarians beyond the borders as the nation unification policy of the past 16 years guarantees their survival also in the longer term. Those beyond the borders need a strong and committed government, dedicated to the cause of the nation, he stressed.

The Prime Minister believes the future of Debrecen is secure for the next 25 to 30 years, saying that the settlement has become a veritable industrial hub by now. You are the envy of half of Europe, he stated.
