Hungarian government would rather pay EU fine than live in fear

The Hungarian government would rather pay the European Union a fine than live in fear, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on X on Saturday.

In a Christmas video attached to his post, the Prime Minister invites foreign tourists to Hungary, stressing that Hungary is a beautiful place, and at the same time one of the safest in Europe.

“We pay a fine of 1 million euros a day to Brussels because we refuse to let illegal migrants in for our safety and yours,” the caption on the video reads.

In his post, Mr Orbán wrote that it is better to pay a fine “than to live in fear.”

“This Christmas, experience Europe the way it should be, in Hungary,” the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote, reaching out to tourists planning to go on Christmas vacation.
