NATO should win peace, not wars waged in its neighbourhood 

Rather than winning the wars that are being waged in its neighbourhood, NATO should win peace, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in a video posted on his Facebook account ahead of the NATO summit in Washington.

Mr Orbán recalled that NATO had been established 75 years ago in order to protect the security of its members. Now, however, it appears to be moving ever further from its original goal, and is behaving more and more like a war organisation. One of the signs of this is that NATO is undertaking an ever more active role in the Russo-Ukrainian war, he added.

“We believe that this is dangerous, in fact, irresponsible because no one can see how this will end, where we will end up,” Mr Orbán said. He stated that he will argue in favour of the idea that NATO should return to its original spirit. 

 “Rather than winning the wars that are being waged in its neighbourhood, NATO should win peace. To this end, it should primarily focus on developing its own defence capabilities. Therefore, on behalf of Hungary, today I will confirm that we will not take part in NATO’s Ukraine mission, but will fully honour our obligations relating to the development of our defence capabilities,” the Prime Minister said in Washington.
