Good afternoon.
First of all, I’d like to cordially welcome my friend Santiago Abascal to Budapest. This is an old friendship that I have always looked upon as a privilege. For two reasons. You should know that Spain has a formidable reputation here in Hungary. We have always regarded it as an important country which has a decisive say in European affairs. Great history, great people, great passions, major ambitions. In other words, we have always had this positive perception of the Spanish people. The second reason why it’s a great pleasure for me to meet with him is a strange phenomenon in European politics because ambition has become extinct in European politics. I have been in European politics for many decades, and there’s ever more blah-blah-blah. We keep repeating things, we ourselves no longer know what they mean, and in the end, there is no action, there are no deeds, and in the meantime, Europe’s competitiveness keeps diminishing. European politics needs people who want something, who still have energy, commitment and passion. This is why we decided to build a meaningful relationship with VOX. We felt that they, too, wanted something. It’s a party that loves its country, that wants to stand up for its country, that believes that traditional values are important: family is important, history is important on which we can build our future. So, this is why we have a good relationship, and this is why we’re working together. We discussed the European situation, with special regard to the European parliamentary elections. Because we will do what it takes in our own countries. We see that VOX, too, is gaining in strength, but in modern politics this won’t be enough. We need European cooperation, and like-minded people must work together. So, we discussed how we will cooperate in the European elections, and confirmed our commitment to cooperation. We would like to see a right-wing turnaround in Europe as well. So, I wish the President all the very best. It’s fantastic that there will be elections soon. As far as we can see, their chances are good. We have faith in the Spanish people’s wise decision, and look forward to Spain regaining its old voice.
Thank you for your attention.
